Masterclass BioBusiness 2010/2011

2010 to 2011 I have followed the Masterclass BioBusiness of the Netherlands Genomics Initiative (NGI). One of the course blocks focused on leadership and media training. During the course Bart Kiene of the "Amsterdam School of the Arts" gave us a short glimpse into voice control and body language. This was a real eye opener to me. If you have never received any voice training (e.g., for singing or for acting) you will most likely not know whether you use your voice properly.

Having had such a good experience with this lecture, I wonder why this is not part of our regular education? People are not only required to be able to communicate well within a team. Nowadays it has become increasingly common that we need to give presentations to various audiences. Knowing the sound of your voice and how to use it well can have a substantial impact on how people experience your speech. If you have never followed voice training and you get the opportunity, take it!
