In June we have received the approval for a new grant from the Flemish IWT. This project is a spin-off from the first research and development grant (2008-2010) where we looked into the use of gene expression profiling for the prioritization of active compounds from a phenotypic screen.

The new grant is motivated by experimental data from the past years where we were able to demonstrate transcriptional effects of analog compounds of the same chemotype. During the next two years (July 2011 until June 2013) we will work together with our academic partners from seven universities in Europe and the US to explore links between transcriptional effects, compound-derived bioassay data and structural properties.

Especially the angle of compound polypharmacology together with the fact that we intend to combine targeted results from bioassays with unbiased molecular profiling data and structural characteristics makes this project both scientifically challenging and from a drug discovery and development perspective highly relevant.
