Busy busy

Looks like I will have time again to continue writing my blog. I have been very busy lately finishing up the manuscript for the book I am writing together with my colleague Willem Talloen ("Gene Expression Studies Using Affymetrix Microarrays"). We have finally submitted it to the publisher Chapman & Hall at the end of August. It is now being reviewed for scientific content. I am curious to hear what the reviewer(s) will think about it as it is not the typical "science book". Willem (he is a biostatistician) and I (I am a molecular biologist by training) are trying to write a book that is hopefully appealing for both the molecular biologist and the (bio)statistician. We try to help people understand the other scientific discipline sufficiently so that the wet lab work as well as the data analysis and interpretation have a high chance of success. This is necessary as often people will only have one of the two specializations. However, gene expression studies using microarray technology really require expertise from both disciplines.

The other topic that kept me occupied the last three to four weeks is finalizing a project proposal for the Flemish government funding agency IWT. Once that is out of the way, I should have more time again to work on science and this web site.
